To make a long story short, I put trim tab fluid (ATF?) in my gear drive oil resevoir (that was empty), so its deep into the system. What should I do? drain out what is in there and replace it with gear oil and not worry about it or should I pull it apart and clean it out right?

I'd drain and refill at least twice.  Some fluids are not compatible with the seals involved --->  very much bad.

How hard is it to drain?

The boats not here (it's in storage) so I can't just look at it and figure it out.

Is there an oil pan and a drain bolt that I can just remove to drain?

Or is this gonna be a much more involved process and I should be calling a real mechanic?

I'm guessing Merc. Drive?? If it is there is a vent plug on the side of the drive near the top and a drain plug at the bottom. You will need a pump to put the gear lube back in pumping it in from the bottom. You can buy a hand pump that works well for about $10 at West Marine, or any other marine  dist. As i remember, it takes about 3-4 quarts of lube. It's pretty easy to do.
