Checkmate's are good boats... don't see many of them out west, but the mid-western guys run them all the time.

They are several steps above chopper gun bayliners and such, but maybe not quite up with Nordic or the like.  The company has been around for years, and I believe that the original Baja boats traced it's bloodlines back to Checkmate.

I wouldn't hesitate buying one, very well built and heavily constructed... makes for a good rough water ride.

Thanks. I went to their web site and from what I can gather I think that Baja just might of bought them out. I noticed that they were back in Ohio. It's got what I'm looking for. I want something in the 25ft range or bigger. Definitely with at least a 496 mag or HO in it.  :jumpie  :good

They have no (or had no) ties to the current Baja (which is owned by Brunswick... aka Bayliner).  Last I heard they were still their own company.

What was the URL for the website??

I will keep that in mind. :good  Sounds like a pretty good deal. I might have forgot to mention that I would prefer a mid-cabin boat. I'm not sure if your boat is or isn't? :confused I'm sure it's going to be long drawn out ordeal.

Just checked out there web site and re-read the letter that was posted there. I guess one of the owner that used to own Baja bought them.

OK...  :good

There's a pretty interesting history there... Baja and another boat builder, Concord, both were started by former Checkmate employees... you can see the blood lines in the boats they build.  If I have my history correct.  Back where I cut my boating teeth, those are the boats people ran most of the time.
