Is it suggested to use a block with the wet sand?

I do have another question.  I have a couple of deeper scratches.  Should I start with a more course paper and then go up to the higher grid.  And, if so what number should I start with?

Most of what I am after is a little oxization that can be seen on the pen stripes.

Thank you all very much for your input!

David

I use a "Soft Block", it's like a foam type of material(you can get them at any paint supply place). I like to use 1200-1500, because it doesn't cut alot off.

Last weekend I after receiving your replies I wet sanded our boat.  I finally went to 2000 for the final sand.  Afterwards I found that the finish was not up to par.  Just a mistake of mine.  As soon as I waxed it....it was fine and better than ever.  Learned to do something new.  And, our boat really appreciates it.

I know, when I read your post about the wife's BMW, I became a little hesitant.  But after reading everything I did plus the input of others posting after I asked my question.  I went ahead and did it anyway.  Sorry about the BMW!
