Hey guys,
First time poster here! I have been bitten by the jet boat bug big time. I have been doing countless searches on the net gathering info and such. I am of course looking for a "starter" boat. In doing so I have come across a couple complete hulls minus engines. While looking online I see that 99.9% of jet boats are running 460 Fords, 454 Chevys or 455 Olds engines. I understand that bigger is better within reason and that the big block engines have a little more TQ to them but why is there a lack of small block powered jet boats? I can build a real nice 350/383 Chevy but heck I can't even find small block motor mounts only the above listed big block motor mounts.

Welcome to Doug's Place... Post a pic of your boat/hull...
At Eliminator, our stock motor for the 19'-21' boats is a 350 (I/O or Jet)...not many orders go out that way though...

That's what I thought...we've had 2-3 go out since I've been hanging around there... Â Dependable powerplants.
We ARE having a lot of problems with the Indmar Vortec 8100's (454 ?)...had five(5) go back this season... Â Â 502's & 525's are fine. They acknowledged the issues and might not going to offer that setup any longer... Â

They even make a 4qt pan for a big block?
Thanks for the info guys. I don't have anything against a big block just wondered what the reason was for not using good small block Chevy's. I am not looking for a boat to break any speed records just a nice solid running boat to have alittle fun with and pull a tuber behind.

Can we assume that he has volunteered to pay all the repair and/or replacement costs. What is his reasoning for the change. Â |
Not sure...lower profile to fit under an engine cover maybe...
We found it when one of the motors came back to Service and they checked the dipstick...the "full" marker was only 2" from the end.... They're usually 6"-8" on a 8qt-10qt...
