Yep pretty much thats what I've heard :)

I've been infected by a Pantherjet virus and know nothing about the more popular pumps. None of that hotrod stuff works on mine its all ready set on kill from the factory :D

Steve,

I am no expert but sense no one is coming up with and answer I will take a shot at it. As far as price goes they run about $260. I wouldn’t have someone install one for you because I think they are pretty easy to put in yourself. That way you can save that money and buy me another beer next time I see you.  :D  The key is you need to have a split bowl to install one. Meaning that the bowl is made out of two pieces bolted together and not one casting.

As far  as a performance gain goes I have no idea if it would help your hull. Theatrically it lowers the thrust line freeing up more of your boat (giving you less wetted area).  Your boat is pretty big as far as jets go so I am not sure how much improvement you would get. It is best to ask an expert that.

They do have some draw backs. I have heard that they make it difficult to load the pump when launching the boat. Apparently sometimes it takes a few minutes for water to get into the pump when launching. I have also heard of some low speed control issues. But they are both hearsay so who knows if they are true.

If you want to put one in and need some help I would be more than happy to help you put one on. It would be a little bit of a drive for you but my labor is free.

Steve,

One of my guys here, Tom Peterson, is pretty much a jet pump guru on this stuff.  If you email me your daytime phone I'd be happy to have him call you to share what he knows about it, which I'm sure is infinately more than I can offer on this particular subject.  Let me know if we can help.

btw, no purchase expected or required.   :)

I am not an expert but I have an opinion on everything so here goes. Would I put one on your boat? Probably not. But let me explain.

My theory on jet boats is that they are only as efficient as their pump. Basically you can have the biggest motor and the best rigging and if your pump is inefficient you will not reap the benefits. So I would tackle a few other things before I would put a droop on your boat.

I would go thru the pump and make sure all the clearances are properly set. When doing that I would clean up the impeller’s edges to help its efficiency.  At the same time flow the bowl. It is arguable if flowing the bowl actually does anything but it is pretty easy to do so I would do it when you have it apart. I would bet if you check your clearances right now they are probably off. The tolerances they build pumps to are not held very tight from the factory. So a lot of efficiency can be picked up by bringing them in to their nominal value.

The next thing I would tackle would be bottom end performance. Your boat is fairly large for a jet. So I would consider an inducer Impeller to help with the bottom end loading. If you pull skiers and tubers it should help you get them out of the water easier ( I personally have not used one but know others that have had good results).

These are just my opinions; If I were you I would talk to a reputable pump builder and your boat manufacturer about this. Chances are that they have already made mods to boats like yours and my be able to give you some insight.

Hope this helps

Thanks for your input Miller. I had a feeling there was more to consider then just adding a droop snoot.  :confused

Rexone, came through, and had Tom give me a call. wow so much info in a short conversation.

Bottom line its not worth it.

Miller you were right, my boat is too big for what I the performance I am looking for.

Adding a droop snoot and everything else that comes with it will give me less stability then I have now.

Thank you rexone, and miller for your input.  :D

Dominator. I dont know the model # off hand. I dont even know what impeller it has.  :stupid
I do have a place diverter though  :D

I am very new to the technical side of things. I was happy going from  point A to point B & back. But now its time to upgrade the performance a little, or at least try too.

I am thinking of blowing my wad on a better stereo system instead.  :good

What I really want is to be able to hit 50 or 60 in rough water. Even if I do all the upgrades to the pump & stuff, I still wont be able too, unless I have my kidney belt on. lol  :D

Stereo it is..... for now.  ;)
