When you glass in the kickboard make sure the top don't come in contact with the deck, or you'll eventually get cracks on the surface at that point!.. From the pics the stringers look pretty good, any delam anywhere?, white spots are places where the glass is separating, any black spots mean that water got in there and it's rotting and needs to ground out!.....BTW what are the plans for this boat???, stock type ski boat, hot rod or race????, regardless you need to check the bottom and make sure it's straight or it will never handle properly!... Good luck on the project!.. |
Thanks, yes i used cloth And i glassed in the kickboard to the bow somebody once told me that it makes it stronger , and i was worried about the sag and flexing it once had......We both know who im talking about
The stringers are in bitchen shape...solid as a rock i checked every inch cause of the Omega i didnt want another stringer problem. Im gonna sand them down a touch and fill in the old upholstery holes "water tight" and lay down some more resin over the top, just to seal it off.....Is that correct or is there a better way.
As for this summer, its coming up quick. Im just going to run a small 454 020 over with a cam, no race motor by any means, but it will put it in the water....... but the summer after i will have a bigger and better and faster motor Im doing baby steps here. " Wife is starting to bitch about the $$ im spending soooooooooo............. this summer it will just be a slow ass boat......
The RPM"S are going to be an issue cause it has a "B" cut impeller and i dont think this little 454 will spin fast enough to get any speed out of it
But it will be getting wet, Thanks for the heads up on everything, im new at this and really need the help.
And really appreciate you'rs.........
Honestly this seems to be the best site for seriouse info on boating/help/and projects so far, that i have found . The others are just to busy puting you down for not having a new or expensive boat
Thanks again guy's

Cool, yes you need to glass the kickboard to the deck, what I meant is you don't want the kickboard itself to touch the deck only the sides and floor, a 1/8" gap is adequate. What happens is that part of the boat takes the hardest hit when it comes down, and if the kickboard is against the deck the shock is transfered to the deck and that causes cracks on the surface, but if it's done don't worry about it you may get lucky and never get any cracks!... Glad to hear the stringers are good, how are you plugging up the holes, with dowels??, if so cut them a tad short so can put some cloth over them that way it really seals them up!.. Well, even though you're starting off with less power, it's a good idea to check the bottom now while it's all apart, it's a piece of cake to turn it over now if you need to do some work on it, it's a real pain in the ass to find out later that the bottom needs work and have to strip all back down again to do it, even as a ski boat(low power)if the bottom isn't right it won't work right!.. Gotta remember how old it is, if it sat with the motor in it all it's life odds are the bottom may be off??, it's a common thing and easy to fix!....
BTW, you don't have to worry ain't nobody gonna put you down here!...
