Is your Mill a CNC Machine or are you turning handles?

I am in the same boat. I have been making a part with an outside radius and it is giving me fits. It would be a really easy part to make on a cnc machine but it is a little difficult turning handles. I need to make some better tooling for my rotary table then I should be fine. Oh well I like machining so screwing up a few parts is just a learning experience.  :)

I’m trying to make a little billet Ski Flag Holder to go on my dash.  I saw one once made out of plastic but I wanted to make one and have it anodized to match my gauge bezels. It is a pretty simple part but it has an outside radius and that is killing me. The rotary table is pretty cool but I haven’t yet mastered it. :stupid  It definitely adds a whole new level to the mill.   :good

Yeah, I think I know the part you're making that would look cool! :good What are you making it out of?, couldn't you make it out of round stock?, I think it would be an easy piece to make? :confused I think the next thing I buy will be a DRO and then a rotary table, that will make life on the mill a lot nicer!.. :D  :good

It’s kind of hard to describe. The part goes on the dash between the gauges. The plastic one that I saw was called a “Flag Hole” or something like that.

One side has an outside radius and the other is flat. The flat side is cut at the angle of the dash so the flag will sit vertically. It looks very similar to a bearing pillar block. That is a pretty poor description but I can’t think of any other way to describe it. I will post a picture once I get it completed.

Yep that's what I thought it would be. Mill one side of a piece of round stock flat the right angle, drill the hole for the flag, drill and countersink a hole on each side for a couple of allens to bolt to the dash, that would look cool!.. :good  :good

Now all I have to do is sweet talk Rexone into anodizing it to match the rest of my hardware. :D

I guess I'll have to wait for the hotboat site to come back up to see any of Miller's handywork.  I'll be back!

Oh I see it now.  Nice Miller, nice.
I didn't know you had a mill.  Is that at your house?

Are you leaving it on the drivers side or would it be better in the observer's area. Or is it maybe for putting a flag up when you guys are swimming around the boat.

Its cool to be able to make your own goodies, man I need to build a shop.

Superdave,

Technically the Mill is my fathers but he never uses it so I am going to call it mine. I am pretty lucky I live next door to my dad  and he has a pretty complete shop.

KC,

I’m not sure where I am going to put it. Maybe I will have to make another one for the other side. I’m pretty cheap so making my own parts appeals to me in that way. But the best part of it is no matter how stressed or depressed I am if I go in the shop and start to make something it takes my mind off of it. If I don’t keep myself busy I tend to get a little negative. So building stuff keeps me sane :)
