LAKE HAVASU CITY, Ariz.—As entries from around the world continue to climb, Performance Alley fills up with vendors, TV plans fall into place and sponsors continue to commit, less than two weeks remain before Lake Havasu City becomes the center of the personal watercraft racing world during 28th Annual quakysense International Jet Sports Boating Association (IJSBA) World Finals.
Featuring the top personal watercraft racers from around the world, the 2009 quakysense IJSBA World Finals, presented by Monster Energy, will be held on Lake Havasu on Oct. 10-18.
The race site for the 11th consecutive year will be at the purpose-built Aqua Stadium on the grounds of the Crazy Horse RV Resort and Campgrounds in the Arizona resort of Lake Havasu City.
Returning to Lake Havasu for the 28th consecutive year, several hundred entries from across the U.S. and over 30 nations will converge on Lake Havasu along with news media from a dozen countries to participate in and cover this world-renown special event. The massive racing extravaganza will once again be held in the shadow of the original London Bridge on the offshoot waters of the Colorado River.
AND THE BEST PART:
Among the free sampling opportunities in the IJSBA Performance Alley will be the new libation station from Arizona’s Diageo Spirits and Alliance Beverage Distributors, a supporting sponsor of the event. Diageo Spirits will be sampling three of their latest innovation brands: Jose Cuervo Silver Tequila, Jeremiah Weed Sweet Tea Vodka and Captain Morgan’s 100 Proof Spiced Rum for those of legal age. Like other vendors, they will also have a wide selection of special beverages available for purchase.

This event breeds others that think they can ride like the proffesionals, and so they go out and do something stupid.
Check out the stats for boating accidents in several different States. You'll find that the vast majority of boating related accidents/deaths are involving a PWC. Â At least in years past this has been the trend.
Still love me?? Â |
I think a few might go that way but I think most get jet ski's because their cheap, cheaper than a boat anyways. Couple hours on the water and they thing their God's and can anything. I've witnessed lots of close calls this year. The first thing I notice is a natural panic reaction, letting off the gas. Their still doing 60+ but now have no steering. Ouch. I think that adds up to just lack of experiance.
Only if you dislike PWC's as much as me. |
Ah, then it's still love...
Everything you said is very true.

Quote (WATERDOG @ Oct. 02 2009,7:58 am) | You guys should give these racers a chance, they're far from your regular PWC rider. For the most part you will very rarely even see them on the open water. |
I see them in Parker on Thankgiving and April, all they do is waste time, they run a zigzag course just like they do on the river and lakes, ain't no different!.. Oh wait, something is good about them, it's a good time for a pi$$ call and get a beer!..

Actually they run a very small and tight shalom course with probably 50 turns. Longest straight is less than 100 foot long.

We have tossed an anchor and watched these races a couple times. Pretty cool to watch from just out side the bouy line. Only down side is you don't know what is actualy going on as in who is in first and if it is a heat race or a final or what class.

I think you have to be a little crazy to race one of those things. Â Â Â |
Well, next time at the river just take a look out there!..
