Made our first run this year today to Lake Perris. Good time, boat ran great, etc.
I'm dating myself a bit, but does anyone ELSE remember a place called SKI-LAND in Perris from back in the 60's??
It had a layout much like Buena Vista (near Bakersfield) has today. They had 4 ski beaches, cabanas, a slalom(sp?) course, later added a ski-jump.
The family had an old wooden ski boat with a 65 Merc outboard. We would take 6-8 coils of rope to jump start.

That's right..!! Maybe late 60's? They'd run from the south end and cross between the islands for the shutdown area.
What a mudhole is was. Originally cut around 8' deep, in the later years you could dang near walk across it.
I think we paid like $10 per day to get in, which was alot of $$$ back then.

Unfortunately I didn't get to go to any of the races there, I moved to SoCal in 72 and I think they were shut down by then, heard a lot of cool shit about that place though!...

Too lazy to change user name:
Use to party there in H.S. sneak through a hole in the fence. Yep its still there but I doubt its in any condition to use. I'll bet ins. would be a problem in ever getting it running again. Whats up with the place in newbury springs off I40 past barstow? Looks like you could race those crazy jet boats that have roll bars and tumble off the track and into the dirt.

That's a bummer, but with a few $$$$$ it would make a nice facility for just bracket racing and keep the speeds down to no more than 100mph and the insurance wouldn't be that bad and it would allow the low buck average boater to go out and have some fun, a run what you brung type of thing!..

Definitely datin' yourself shueman; but maybe not as bad as you think! Went there in '81-'82 for the drags. They had closed it down for awhile and reopened it for a few years in the early '80s. Was a mudhole but there wasn't a bad seat in the house. I too am still in the area, maybe 10 minutes away. Would be cool if they started racin' there again.
