when you make the catalina run, where do you launch...?

are the ramps in good shape and do-able with a 4x2 (w/locker) but still not 4x4  :(

i figured if i had a 4x4 diesel, i'd just break it...  :beat

oh... what kind of speed do you usually run on that trip

We usually launch out of Newport Dunes or Davies in Los Alamitos.  The ramps there are pretty good and they have a wash rack too.  I've seen people launch with 4X2's and never had a problem.  My tow vehicles are all 4 wheel drive, but I've never had to use it yet out there.  

The run to catalina usually takes about 40-50 minutes cruising at about 45mph to 55mph (weather permitting of course).  Flat nice days can take you quicker and of course rough swells will take you longer.  :D

so, how close do you have to be to the islands before you can start to see them..? like 13 miles out or so..? on clear days..  :beer
its flat here and when you get out that far, you cant see "squat"...

i figured with the elevations of stuff out there, you might be able see them from a greater distance...?
no biggie, i've ran the GPS in zero viz... just kinda creepy.

I didn't make it to Catalina this weekend but we cruised up & down the coast on sunday with 90 degree weather.  Then we had lunch at the Yard House.  We had a blast.  :D
