I know they have been going back and forth over cleaning up the Salton Sea for years now. Last I checked there was a plan to section off a portion of the lake and then de-salt the bigger portion. Don't know what, if any, progress has been made.

But that would be a beautiful lake if it were cleaned up. Large body of water in a very scenic area, and much closer to LA than the river.
