Looking for a 99 xtra cab 2500 (3/4 ton) 4x4 A/T with the big motor. Any thing that is a reacurring(sp) problem with these, i.e. Tranny, Rear ends, Brakes, A/C, or what ever...

If this helps, which I doubt it will because I've been pretty unhelpful as of late, here it is..

I own a 3/4 ton Yukon XL 4wd.  I haven't had any problems with mine yet, as of 2 1/2 years except for the tranny going out once.

I have quite a few friends with the 97-99 2500 4WD either lifted or not and the only problem with them is that for some the trannies keep falling apart.  besides that though, no problems.

Hope this helps.

Blowing a tranny seems to be a trend like ya said :(  that will take some fun out of a lake trip.
Thanks Loco

The Allison is probably pretty bullet proof, I'm still looking my Crew Cab is getting pretty tired.

Allison is big and heavy and almost undestructible, a well built TH400 is the next best thing, and a lot cheaper too!..  :eek  :)

I put 202,000 miles on my 4L80E in my truck.  Those were hard miles too, lot's of them pulling a 6 horse race trailer and gear all over the west coast.  I can't complain, as I remember the old 700R4's that were good for 40,000 miles like clock work.  Next truck will be Allison equipped.  Especially since I'm going to work for the Allison dealer here in town.  :D

Yeah, that's because the  4L80E is TH400 with an overdrive gear!, I been trying to find a junker to build, since it's operated electronically, I want to figure how I could make it shift manually with switches instead of computer controlled, I think that would be so cool. Ain't heard of anybody doing that yet!..  :confused  :D

The 700R's were junk until 86, then they upgraded them and they still left a lot to be desired but, these days you can build a pretty good one with all the aftermarket stuff they have for them!..  :)

Well, it's official, came back to the GMC camp again.  I had a 90 K5 Jimmy that was stolen in 93' and then went to Chevy for two trucks.  I bought an 01 GMC 2500HD Crew cab short bed this week with 16kmiles for a great price.  I was gonna go Duramax but I bought a mobile home on the river and that put the diesel on hold for next time.  This 6.0 does not have the CSK yet but it does have the 100k warranty if it starts and/or blows up because of it.  Getting it Fri.  It's the SLE with buckets.

I had a 94' Z71 at one point, my tranny was fine when I sold it at 74k miles but I had friends who did have trouble with the same set up.  My only gripe was the A/C pump blew at 60k miles and sent frags through the system.  $1K later and it was fixed.  Never heard of anyone with same prob. so it was a fluke.  Great truck otherwise.
