Quote (weldwade @ Aug. 13 2005,11:58 pm) | I have an old GV OD from a turbo400, found that it was unreliable. The new ones might be better but if im going to spend 4-5K on something Id rather make more ponies. Whipple got a nice setup and Banks does also. The only blower exp I have is with drag cars so going with a bolt on all inclusive kit is what Im looking for. |
You can't get a better unit, you must have had one of the old ones that were small!..

Yep traded a good trans for it, mistake. The damn shift solenoid burns out about every other week, GV couldent help me with the prob so I took it off. |
Yep I still have one of those somwhere on the shelf with a rebuild kit!..They're good for a half ton pickup, wouldn't use it on a motorhome, I'd get one of the newer big ones!..

Thanks GFR sent them my info and the catalog and dealer info are on the way. by the way have you ever installed or used one of these kits? looks like a good unit. |
I've never used one personally but I installed one on a friend's dually a while back and it was a pretty simple deal and he loved it, truck didn't know what a hill was and got better mileage too!..
BTW, Paxton is a good setup too the Novi is a good unit, never messed with those though!.
Paxton!

Prob think im crazy but the trucks almost paid off only 80K mi on it and I need a new house not a new truck payment... |
I've got a '92 dually 454 with the whipple 110,00 miles. installed it at about 600 miles and have had no trouble. It idles in 110' temps. And has been very trouble free. twin screw heats the air less and reduces the need to cool the charge in street cars. mine runs at about 8 lbs boost wot. smog legal and dependable. other mods you need to look at are headers and a less restrictive muffler. I had a problem with exhaust leaks under heavy boost. I ran edelbrock headers and a flowmaster and left the rest of the exhaust, mine was 3"tubing |
thanks for the info and pic stingray. the thing i like about the whipple is the size, no tech info on it yet but it looks like it would have bigger bearings, shafts etc. might hold more oil too but wont know until i get some stuff in the mail. took a ride in a friends truck 3/4 ton 460 with paxton novi setup and was very impressed. i think that truck would give the new diesels a damn good run for thier money. he says he gets 11 to 12mpg towing and he loves it |
The whipple is self contained and has no other tubing or hoses and seems to have less parts associated with it. The only other upgrade I did was to have a larger radiator made, it never overheated but more cooling slowed the fan from running as much. I also own a 2000 excursion with the power pack and a 6 gun speed loader, and the dually w/ 100k can still take it from light to light. but for towing you can't beat the diesel.
