Sold the old truck and I'm shopping for a new c2500 W/ a duramax I see a tach prob. but whats the general thoughts or problems?

The wife is still driving the 2000 excursion w/ 7.3 powerstroke that will stay, I can't get it away from her.

So I've had a ford but not to happy with what I've heard about the 6.0.

Anyone?? :rolleyes

I am going to add a pre fuel filter on mine to 2 micron. The Bosch injectors can’t handle anything over 3 microns. For 2006 I think the fuel system is changed from what I have. I really like the Allison it works very well and the 06's have a button on the shift knob where you can manually select/hold the trans in gear, cool feature for towing. The Tach has been the only big problem so far with mine, but whatever you buy there all electronic any more :break

Cool, well it's ordered. It will be about 6 weeks.

And your right the trans is a 6 speed with a  manual mode, 360 HP 650 ft lbs of torque  :eek

I drove one about 75 miles, and it seemed good. I'll post more when I get the build sheet.

Black w/ black leather :good

The new Allison 6 speed is awsum.
Auto engineering mag did a large review on it and it is the S#!t!!!!

All kinds of improvements of an already excellent tranny.
80,000 hard, hot heavy towing miles on mine - no probs.

I change the fluid every 25K & spin on solinoid filter (according to the owners man., takes about 10 minutes, comes out candy apple red everytime.

I've got 85K on mine with no problems. My rule of thumb is trans fluid is cheep transmission rebuilds are not.

You got that right, same goes for the motor!.. :good Does the torque converter have a drain plug??, 80% of the oil is in the converter and just changing the oil in the pan is useless because as soon as you start it up, the new stuff is contaminated!. Hate that about GM's they never put one in, used to see a lot of wiped out TH400 and 350's because of that. Ford used to put one in so could change the whole thing, always keep a fresh load in!.. :good

Another life extender is a good cooler if you carry or tow heavy loads!.. :good

The '09, perhaps to be released in the next 15 months will have the Super Duramax, with an even better Allison 6 speed.

Massive more HP and torque, same MPG and a colossal amt of improvements.

This according to Automotive Engineering Mag.

You can find more then you want to know about the Duramax at www.thedieselplace.com.  I have one (2004 1st generation motor) and love it.

I did have the hubs replaced in both front wheels at 50,000, don't know why they went bad.

Once you break in the tranny, I recommend using Transynd tranny fluid - the good shit.

The truth is they could stop today with the HP and torque wars. :stupid  most trucks have more of both than the rest of the drivetrain can handle.

International uses the dt444. That is a 7.3 powerstroke in trucks rated up to 26000lbs with no problems and that is only rated at 235 hp 500ft lbs torque.

the new 3/4 and 1 ton trucks rated over 350 hp / 600 lbs are so over kill for the rest of the truck, Brakes, axles, drivelines, ect.

I would rather buy a truck with the rest of the parts built to servive closer to what the engines are rated to live.

I have a 2000 excursion with a class 5 hitch, I towed a 14000lb "bobcat" style skid steer to parker with no trouble keeping up on the freeway and thats the 7.3.

The big numbers sell trucks, and I bought one.  IMO chevy has the best overall package today, engine and trans. I would buy less horsepower if some one was pushing a more durable drivetrain.

WoW maybe this should have gone in the RANT thread :rotflmao  let me take a breath and calm down

Just my uneducated opinion :stupid  :rolleyes
