So the '86 S-10 is puffin' out white smoke when you start it up....been building for the last few months....
Had a new long-block put in it about 5 years ago. It only gets driven a few hours per week, so I'm thinkin' the HEAD GASKETS have given way.
What you say....??

Father-In-Law drives it....he said it smokes a little, all the time now, but more pronounced when starting. Â As I recall, it was more "blue" before...
Hell, I don't know which end of the screwdriver to use... Â
We're gonna get it checked out on Friday....

Thanks.....!!
Yep, it's the V6, Tahoe package....got 100,000 out of the first motor... Ran it all over the place, towed the 18' bubbledeck, etc.
It just sits most of the time now....not good for a motor...

That Tahoe package did the job....!! Make many a run out to Blythe pulling the bubbledeck, fully loaded with gear and provisions, and never had a problem over the Summit. Same thing going up to Shaver (outside Fresno) in that 5000' altitude.

We would camp at McIntyre Fri night, then hit a local motel Sat night.... Â Prolly get 4-6 hrs sleep total....back in our younger days, of course....
That town has not changed at all, actually gone backwards.... Almost bought a place up at Aha Quin a few years back... Nice "wilderness river" up north of there...

If blue , well you know it's oil and the thing is tired. White smoke sometimes is tranny fluid. But that should only happen when de -exelerating(slowing down). Watch this "smoke". Does it disapate like steam or actualy hang in the air like smoke, burning oil blue smoke.

White smoke is water, blue smoke is oil, at start up is valve seals, smoke when decelarating is valve guides, continuously is rings and/or exhaust valve seals!.. Not being driven hardly and with the high mileage, it's time to refresh it!.. Not driving it much hurts it more than anything else!..

PUt it on the scope and checked the compression. All is well.... Mechanic could not find much of anything wrong and thinks it's just the oil not draining down into the pan all the way....
He says "just drive it more"..... Of course, a quote of $1600 to re-do the heads helps the decision quite a bit.....

Dad's uses a local gas station mechanic.... They've actually been pretty good to him over the years.... I had Mr Goodwrench go through the truck end-2-end a few years back....maybe a return visit is in order for another opinion...

Quote (stingray @ Nov. 06 2006,6:08 pm) | If thats what they think, drive it a couple hundred miles, not hard just steady. if they they think its "plugged up" pull a valve cover and look at how the rockers look. It will tell you alot. |
Thanks bro.... I think I'll do some daily runs up & down the 210 to give it a work-out.... Maybe switch to 5W-20 as well....
