Considering converting my 2000 F350 4x4 single axle to a Dually with a kit.
Any experience with that and/or recommendations for a good set up??

When I first bought my '86 F-350 I decided to go to dualies. Parts and install was about the same cost as the truck. Was cheaper just to buy a duallie. Bought some 10 ply tires instead.

I think somebody was out to get my bucks. That's a third of my quote, and mine didn't enclude fenders as well as the tires.

Thats the kit only, Hub adapters front and rear, 4 Alcoa Alumin wheels, 2 steel wheels(inner rears), and unpainted fenders.
Installation would be a breeze, toughest part would be drilling holes for the fenders

Sniff, Sniff, Do I smell Krylon? j/k  When I had my truck painted they had like 10 different whites. Went with reg. Ford White, it was by far the whitest.

FWIW, I have the Arrowcraft kit on my '97 f-350. The truck is the last of the old body style. I was setting up to haul a large cabover camper, and SRW wasn't going to cut it.
The kit isn't tough to install, my truck has two tanks, so cutting the holes to extend the filler necks was the biggest PIA in the process. And there is no going back, the bedsides are dually-only now.
At the time, the Arrowcraft people were selling the Alcoas far cheaper than anyone around here. I put the kit on at about 50k, the truck now has 81k, and no regrets whatsoever.
If you really need the skinny, I can dig out my paperwork and give you the exact price i paid with shipping etc. to NorCal.

It did, C.E. Really improved the unloaded handling, as well.
The truck is a CC LB 4x4 PSD, and the camper is a Artic Fox 990 w/a full wall slide-out.
The sticker on the thing says is weighs 3100 or something, but that is a joke. Full of water (46 gal. total)  and full propane it is more like 4k.
I added dash-controlled air bags, Rancho 9000's and I am very happy with it. Much less hassle than our old motor home, and perfect for me and momma. I can load/unload in about an hour and a half, including tie-downs and resetting the shocks and tires. They are not for everybody, but it is what we need in our lives right now.
Zig if ya go this route, the only way to step for tires, imho are the Michelin's.

Thanks for the insight FBT....It seems like a decent kit.
Funny, I just sold my Cabover and got a 5th wheel trailer.
I only had to use airbags for the cabover, and that was only so it sat level because otherwise the 1 ton handled it fine.
I'm somewhat concerned about side stability(windshear) with a 40'  5er and also concerned about how a single axle will pull it through the sand dunes. Mine is 4x4 so I may do a cross my fingers test before adding the duals and see if its even neccessary.
What I don't want is to loose fuel mileage if I can help it.

I luckily only have one fuel filler and its right near the front so that won't be an issue for me.
.

Okay Ziggy, here ya go.

I bought my kit in 10 of 03.

It consisted of 4 Alcoas, with lugs, covers, and caps, two steel rims, brass valve stems, one pair of dually fenders with clearance lights, inner fender liners, the front adapters to run the dually style wheels and the rear adapters to space the two rear rims properly,and the instructions for assembly.
So, everything but tires paint and install.
It was $1752.00 + $183.00 shipping.
I thought/think it was a good deal. The rims alone ain't cheap.
The adapters are stout as hell.

I looked for a take-off bed, and couldn't find one. The 97 body has different bed sides for the srw and drw beds, so sticking a factory dually fender on my bed was a no-go. The kit is designed with fenders to go on a srw bed.
You might have better luck finding a dually take-off bed in Socal, one of the service body outfits that put toolbox beds on might be a place to look.
Then, just buy the wheels and adpapters. I changed the fronts out to so I only have to haul one spare.
I don't think you'd regret it. I don't. As far as sinking in the sand, honestly I think it helps, but I was running 12.50s before and never sank either, 4x4 is the way to go.

If you do this, I researched the heck out of the tire deal, and wound up with 235-85R16's in the rear, and 265-75R16's in the front. Stock they had 215's all the way around, I wanted a wider footprint in the sand, and with the weight of the PSD in the front and only one tire, this combo gave me the best setup. The fronts are much wider than the rear, and float well in the sand, but are within 2/10 of an inch of the same height as the rears, which isn't going to bother the 4WD on the pavement when the hubs are locked and the T-case is engaged, which is where I spend most of my 4WD time around here.

Mine is 4x4, too. When the truck has the camper on it's back and is towing between 4500 and 7k, I am glad I did the conversion. I have had it within 30 lbs of 20k which is GCVW max.
You may do all right with 4x4 as far as staying on top in the sand, lots of variables there, soft or wet sand, tires, etc.
As far as stability towng, I do not think you can beat the dually. JMHO
I would be uncomfortable running wider tires than the 235's on the back due to sidewall clearances, etc. twin 235's is a pretty decent contact patch. They are load range E Michelins, LTS/MS models.
