Okay Ziggy, here ya go.
I bought my kit in 10 of 03.
It consisted of 4 Alcoas, with lugs, covers, and caps, two steel rims, brass valve stems, one pair of dually fenders with clearance lights, inner fender liners, the front adapters to run the dually style wheels and the rear adapters to space the two rear rims properly,and the instructions for assembly. So, everything but tires paint and install. It was $1752.00 + $183.00 shipping. I thought/think it was a good deal. The rims alone ain't cheap. The adapters are stout as hell.
I looked for a take-off bed, and couldn't find one. The 97 body has different bed sides for the srw and drw beds, so sticking a factory dually fender on my bed was a no-go. The kit is designed with fenders to go on a srw bed. You might have better luck finding a dually take-off bed in Socal, one of the service body outfits that put toolbox beds on might be a place to look. Then, just buy the wheels and adpapters. I changed the fronts out to so I only have to haul one spare. I don't think you'd regret it. I don't. As far as sinking in the sand, honestly I think it helps, but I was running 12.50s before and never sank either, 4x4 is the way to go.
If you do this, I researched the heck out of the tire deal, and wound up with 235-85R16's in the rear, and 265-75R16's in the front. Stock they had 215's all the way around, I wanted a wider footprint in the sand, and with the weight of the PSD in the front and only one tire, this combo gave me the best setup. The fronts are much wider than the rear, and float well in the sand, but are within 2/10 of an inch of the same height as the rears, which isn't going to bother the 4WD on the pavement when the hubs are locked and the T-case is engaged, which is where I spend most of my 4WD time around here.
