Hey Newbie here:  :good
So far this is the best board for honest advice from what I see
So,

I need help with a Blower motor issue......

here it goes.

19 hours on a 454 stock
with aftermarket cam
Weiand blower, and dual 750-cfm Holley carburetors

40-45 mph no problem runs around all day long no issues
as soon as boat accelerates to about 55-60 get a crazy pop,
pop  from the motor on decceleration...(seems to happen when it gets in boost and then just backing off the throttle ever so slightly).
then,
motor stalls out dead in the water.
Fire it right back up no problem blows smoke out of the exhaust then runs around until you accelerate again to the same issue.
thats my problem....

First thoughts were fuel.
so checked fuel lines everything is ok
check carbs...ok
changed a couple bad spark plug wires...

ran it around Elsinore again the next week.
no issues until it hit boost again....damn damn

now she wont even idle....running on 6-7 cylinders maybe..
had to limp her back to the trailer!!!!!!!!

please help
give me your thoughts!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OK so here's the next post....

:banghead  :banghead  :banghead  :banghead  :banghead

Wednesday motor Test:
The motor is shot....DAMN DAMN DAMN.
# 2 nothing on compression
every other cylinder 150 PSI
Leak down test: Air blowing out the intake( carbs)
Water in every cylinder
Plugs are shot
No fuel pressure regulator
HYDRAULIC the motor maybe?????
Maybe bent intake valve????

The suckie thing is this is a new boat to me. i just bought this thing from a private party a month ago. I ran it for 30 minutes...had the problem the first time took it to the engine builder he said they might have found the problem and installed 3 new wires. I went back out again ran it for 30 minutes again and had the same problem again but this time it wont idle anymore.
running on 7 cylinders.

Any thoughts from you Veterans guys on this board.....

WHAT DO I DO???????

Should I look into legal with the seller???????

Your going to need to pull the heads and see why you got air going past the #2 intake valve on your leak down. I'll guess a broke/ stuck/bent valve.

Hopefully not as bad as I did on this intake valve, the head of the valve broke off and got stuffed sideways into the valve seat cracking the head :break

Well we need a lot more info on the motor(compression, cam specs, timing, fuel system, jetting etc.) to pinpoint the problem but I'm guessing here that you were on a melt down under load and the fuel delivery is part of the problem. You may have cooked a valve is the reason blowing out the top?. Water in every cylinder could be from several things!.
Sounds to me that this was put together just to sell,(I've seen this many times) I looked at the pic and a red flag popped up instantly!.That funky fuel line is a dead giveaway, nobody would put something like that on something that looks that good. Everything is polished on there but the idler bracket spacers, why!..My advice would be to tear the whole thing down and go through it from top to bottom and make sure it's right, it'll save you a whole bunch of money and grief!....

Yep....I don't believe that there is currently enough info about the motor here to come up with an educated guess.  There's alot of things that it "could be" right now, but it can certainly be narrowed down quite a bit if more specs on the engine internals are available.  To me, it sounds like there was some detonation going on and it popped a valve and cracked a head at the water port.  That would let ya still run(Usually), but it would run crappy.  Need to know stuff like compression Ratio, valve type (2 piece or 1?), Cam specs, timing, ignition system type, etc.  It may very well be 2 or more problems too.  I'm thinking that maybe there is an MSD system and that can cause the problems at the higher speed if faulty.  But, that doesn't explain the dead cylinder and water in oil.  It's also a possibility that your timing chain jumped a bit.

My guess here is 3 fold.  Bad Timing(Can be caused by alot of things), bent/broke valve (caused by detonation due to timing issue), cracked head (Caused by detonation/bad valve)

The reason I say this, is a similar scenario happened to me 2 summers ago.  Cheap gas along with bad timing causing detonation, which in turn caused a miss at higher speed (Popping noise), dead cylinder (#8), caused by a broken valve spring and a cracked head at the same valve.  I actually blew a 1/4" gap between #6 and #8 cylinders on the topside of the head.

OK Motor junkies....Here it is: :drink

I dropped off the boat this morning in Corona hint???Hint???

They tore down the motor:
Heres what i saw:
They took off both heads
Even bank, # 2 is dead intake valve "tuliped the valve"
So why did this happen i asked???
LEANED HER OUT  :banghead
Checked fuel pressure from the "new" black holly fuel pump
Well turns out 3 psi was pumping out......Should be no less then 6-7 i guess with this application. So when we were running 35-40 no worries motor was fueling fine then we get into boost and higher RPM's we sucking fuel from nowhere...boat stops dead in the water regression floods the exhaust headers and wamo you have this story....

So Im happy to say that the engine is going to be rebuilt this week with new goodies that i buy this time.

thanks Gofastracer  :beer
thanks yard barg  :beer
thanks AZKC  :beer
thanks bigboytoys  :beer

You guys are one good reason the boat fourms are useful tools. I will keep you posted on news to come...

If you have any other info or ideas for a me shoot them my way.

Hope to soon be floating again and can buy you guys a beer

:good

thanks,
kold

Make sure you get some good valves in that thing.  Blown and turbo motors are famous to tuliping stock type intake valves.  I'd use a minimum of Manley Severe duty stainless (or equivilent) on the intakes and Extreme Duty (inconel) on the exhaust.  And of course get some fuel in the motor.  Anytime you have popping out the carb going into boost you can almost bet 100% you got a fuel supply problem.  Good luck with it.  The problem you described above is textbook symptoms for fuel starvation.
